From success in the US to success… in Poland
Adam Drewniany, an entrepreneur and manager, invested in the California-based company South Bay Solutions over twenty years ago. Today, he is investing in Poland.
The Beginnings
South Bay Solutions (SBS) in California was founded in 1992, originally operating under the name South Bay Machining. From the very beginning, the company offered manufacturing technologies for the medical, automotive, oil & gas, and military-defense industries, as well as precision CNC machining with all types of materials, from aluminum and titanium to copper, plastics, and others. It quickly gained a reputation for manufacturing high-quality products and providing excellent customer service.
In 2001, Adam Drewniany took the reins of this maturing company, appointed a new board of directors, and created a management team experienced in precision machining, engineering design, and production assembly, as well as in the outsourcing services industry.
The Pole who saved Tesla
A turning point in the company’s history came in 2012. Adam Drewniany, founder of SBS Technology Poland, saved the electric car manufacturer TESLA from a reputational ruin. When Elon Musk’s company announced the premiere of the Tesla Model S, it turned out that no company on the market was able to deliver the required number of batteries on time. At that point, Adam Drewniany bought a school building in Texas, converted it into a factory, and very quickly launched the production of battery packs. Thanks to this, he delivered them in time for the premiere, which proved to be a major success for Tesla. Its value tripled, leaving behind other corporations working on electric models. Since then, SBS Technology became the exclusive manufacturer of battery modules for the Tesla Model S and Model X. The media began to refer to Adam Drewniany as “the Pole who saved Tesla”.
Polish projects
The next stage of development was a mission to create the most eco-friendly battery in the world, with a minimal carbon footprint and the highest recycling capabilities. To meet the growing demand for complete battery systems, Northvolt AB was founded in 2016.
In 2018, Adam Drewniany established Northvolt Poland sp. z o.o. in cooperation with Peter Carlsson to meet the growing demand for complete battery systems. After 3 years, Adam Drewniany sold his shares in Northvolt Poland Sp. z o.o. to Northvolt AB and became a shareholder in Northvolt AB.
In 2022, Adam Drewniany undertook another initiative, founding Voltbank Battery Systems near Warsaw, whose task is to design and manufacture residential energy storage systems as well as two-wheeled and three-wheeled electric vehicles.
The creation of Northvolt and Voltbank enabled the development of advanced, eco-friendly battery technologies and residential energy storage systems, while simultaneously supporting the growth of the electric vehicle market in Poland. Through these initiatives, the companies contribute to meeting the rising demand for sustainable and innovative energy solutions.
