Coolomat: Polish solution is taking the US market by storm

Coolomats also make it easier to order online products such as meat and dairy items, which generally cannot be kept out of the fridge for long. However, there is nothing to stop Coolomats from also stocking dry food or cleaning products.

The Krakow Technology Park Seed Fund invested in the project, highlighting the innovation of the concept, its technological sophistication, the team’s expertise, and the venture’s significant growth potential in both the Polish and international markets.

Coolomat began operations in 2014 and expanded its network of partners over the following few years. It is one of the first companies to have introduced the concept of food vending machines to the market. In 2019, the company decided to expand, launching distribution abroad.

The company currently operates in the United States, Spain, Austria and Slovenia, though the US market remains its primary focus.

“I consider our entry into the US market to be our greatest success. We achieved this thanks to the experience gained from a pilot scheme involving 30 machines, which operated in Warsaw between 2018 and 2020, in partnership with companies such as Frisco, Carrefour and Auchan. The practical technical experience gained during that period enabled us to design a new generation of machines for the US market, and our partners in the US were able to trust us and enter into cooperation with us. We hold all the necessary certificates to operate and sell on the US market,” says Marcin Warzocha, CEO of Coolomat.

In the United States, Coolomat’s equipment is already being used by dozens of customers, including retail chains, plant health services and food banks.

“There are tens of thousands of locations across the US where food aid is distributed to the public. During the pandemic, there was a shortage of volunteers at food parcel collection points, and the Coolomats perfectly filled this gap in the distribution system. We see huge potential for growth in this market,” adds the CEO.

The project is overseen by experts in mechanical engineering, refrigeration, IT and management, and the solution itself is primarily aimed at clients in the e-grocery and logistics sectors, though the target audience is constantly growing.

The company is enjoying great international success and continues to grow; its future plans include even more intensive international expansion in Europe and increased sales in the US.

“Coolomat is a portfolio company of ours of which we are particularly proud. It is an example of a company that has used its business experience of working with major Polish players in the food industry to develop its know-how. This knowledge has enabled them to enter international markets. It also came at the right time following the pandemic and during price rises, when demand for food increased. “Many of our start-ups dream of entering the US market; not only have they succeeded, but they are also constantly increasing their sales,” says Marcin Nalepa, CEO of the KPT Seed Fund.
